The Call To Begin

Beginning starts with noticing.

That’s why journaling can begin with a three-step process — breathe, notice, and note.

In doing this, you’re choosing to stay with yourself instead of turning away. You’re holding the notebook long enough to feel that it belongs to you, that it is safe, and that the process of journaling can be trusted.

The blank page can feel intimidating, but it is not testing you or judging whether you’re good enough at writing.

It’s simply there.

You might begin by drawing a small shape, writing one honest word, or pressing the pen to the page just to notice how it feels.

You might not write anything at all at first — and that still counts.

Because the act of journaling begins before any words appear.

It begins when you decide you’re willing to pay attention, you’re willing to notice.

It begins when you decide — I’m here.

You don’t need to feel ready. You don’t need to feel confident. You don’t need to know where this will lead. The beginning is simply the moment you stop rushing, allow yourself to be where you are, and let yourself catch up with what is happening inside you.

That’s how journaling begins.

Not with ink, or words, or answers — but with attention and a small moment just for yourself.

    • Hold your notebook for a moment before opening it. What does it feel like to hold it right now?

    • Make one small mark — a word, a shape, or a line — to show how you feel in this moment.
