Creative Journaling and Inner Worlds — Listening to the Characters Within

It might sound strange, but I’ve always held places inside me. Landscapes, cities, and paths that seem to live somewhere inwardly.

More recently, since I began writing stories, I’ve found myself holding characters too.

This is Farrah. She’s been with me a long while now.

Here she is, pausing in that in between place, quietly wondering what life might ask of her next.

Most of my characters don’t rush toward answers. They simply stay long enough to listen.

Creative journaling and reflective writing often begin here. With an image. A feeling. A question that does not yet have a shape. When you allow yourself to explore your inner world, you strengthen imagination, self awareness, and emotional insight.

    • Is there a place or character you’ve been carrying inside? Describe them in detail. What do they represent in you?

    • What question about your own future is calling you? Write it clearly, even if you cannot answer it yet.

    • If you imagined yourself as a character waiting for something, what would you be waiting for?

    • What happens when you stop searching for answers and simply listen? What do you notice first?
